portrait of imogene
imogene, 1914-2011
my grandmother' s passing this week prompted me to go rummaging through my archives to find this piece. i can't seem to remember the year this was done but i'm assuming, based on the style, the end of college or shortly after..... i can safely say it was done well over a decade ago. yea, that sounds good... as i come to the conclusion that i need to keep better archives.
this portrait, although i can't help but think how i would approach things differently technique-wise, it still captures the spirit of my grandmother. she was a great person with a wonderful spirit.. loved and missed by many.
i love portraits. thinking of challenging myself to do a not-so-challenging task of another portrait of mrs. imogene.... a painting this time
RIP Grandma

tv on the radio @ radio city
rip to Gerard Smith of TV On The Radio, who passed away yesterday.
last week, i saw tv on the radio in concert at radio city music hall. it was an odd venue but i also have never been to radio city before.... and probably wouldn't have gone there for any other reason. radio city was packed and we were pretty far back. i have to say, the concert was quite disappointing, and not because of TVOTR.. they played well. the problem was the venue. it just wasn't loud enough. i was a spectator watching from afar, not a concert goer engulfed in the sound. it was enjoyable but i wanted to love it.. and i didn't. still got love for TVOTR. albums that i love to paint to, Return to Cookie Mountain and Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes.
